After years of working with professional make-up artists, I thought I knew pretty much everything I’d ever need to know about the art of painting one’s face. However, this old dog learned a pretty nifty new make-up trick I thought I should share with all of you.

Make-up pros

Make-up pros

I have a favorite kohl black eyeliner that is so soft it goes on without pulling the skin, and smudges nicely when I want to soften the line (harsh liner is not flattering, so I like to go over it with a shadow brush ever so slightly to soften the edge). The very reason I love this liner – it’s softness, is also the problem I have been having with it, because the sharpened tip keeps breaking off when I remove the pencil from the sharpener.

Luckily, my friend and fellow former model, Cyndy Hayes happened to be here while I was trying to slap some make-up on quickly for a birthday party (I was running late). Vocalizing my eyeliner woes in less than ladylike terms,  she grabbed the offending liner and tossed it into the refrigerator for five minutes to harden up, then flawlessly sharpened and removed the pencil ready for me to carry on. You can save yourself time by keeping your make-up pencils stored in a pencil box in the fridge until ready to use.
